The latest extension is the QR Code scanner for sharing contacts. This handy feature lets you add and share WhatsApp contacts in a jiffy. Here is how to use this new feature.
There are three ways to add or share contacts using WhatsApp’s new QR Code scanner – Scanning the QR code on the phone, using the sharing link, and scanning the QR code image. Currently, this feature is available only in the beta version of WhatsApp (v2.20.171). So, if you want to use the new WhatsApp feature, install the WhatsApp beta program from the Play Store.

How to get your WhatsApp QR code?
- Open WhatsApp, tap on the 3-dots menu at the top right corner of the screen.
- Choose Settings > and tap on the QR Code icon beside your name.
- You will get a QR Code, which you can share directly with a friend.
- Take a screenshot and send it to your friend to add you to his WhatsApp contact list.
How to add a contact by scanning the QR code in WhatsApp?
- Open WhatsApp > and tap on the Chat button in the bottom right corner.
- Tap on the QR code icon beside the New Contact option.
- Now, choose the SCAN CODE tab.
- Point your camera to the WhatsApp contact QR code to add the contact to your list.
That’s it. You have now added a new contact to your list. You should now be able to chat with your newly added friend.
How to use the QR Code image to add a contact in WhatsApp?
You can also add any person on your contact list by scanning the QR Code image send to your phone.
- Tap on the New chat button > tap on the QR Code icon.
- Tap on the Gallery icon on the left to open the phone gallery.
- Browse to where the QR code image is saved and select it.
- WhatsApp will scan the QR code from the image, and find the contact.
- Tap on Add to add the contact.
The next option of WhatsApp’s QR code feature is the ability to add or share contacts via a sharable link. Here’s how to get a sharable link and add/share contact with WhatsApp.
- Open WhatsApp >tap on the 3-dots menu at the top right corner.
- Choose Settings > tap on the QR Code icon next to your name.
- Tap on the Share button at the top right corner of your screen.
- Choose a sharing option and the contact you want to send the link.
Your friend can use the link to add you to his/her WhatsApp contact list. To add the contact, open the link on your phone. It will automatically launch the WhatsApp, and added to your contact list.
FYI, WhatsApp has also provides the QR Code reset option for your security. To reset, open WhatsApp > Settings > QR icon > 3-dots menu on the top right corner > choose Reset QR code.
