Good news for Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Zenfome Max M2 users. Stable Android 9 Pie update available for both phones. Currently available in India for ZB632KL and ZB601KL variants, Android Pie beta users and non-beta users will get the new ZenUI update via over the air. This update bumps the software version to 16.2018.1903.37 on Zenfone Max Pro M1 and 16.2017.1903.050 on Zenfone Max M2.

Android 9.0 (Pie) update will bring revamped ZenUI, dark theme, new navigation gestures and new volume menu on ZenFone Max phones. Adaptive battery, adaptive brightness, digital wellbeing, new notification system and latest security patches (March 2019) are other important changes of this update.

Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 update 16.2018.1903.37 and Max M2 update 16.2017.1903.050 is currently available for IN SKU only. For Max Pro M1 runs Android 9 Pie Beta, the OTA weighs around 392MB. It is 1.55GB for other users.

Update: ZenFone Max Pro M2 has also starts receiving the stable Android 9 Pie update in India. Available for ZB630KL variant, the update comes with software version 16.2017.1903.061 and includes March 2019 security patches.

Download and Install Android Pie Update on ZenFone Max Pro M1 and Max M2

The update is rolling in stages, so it will take few days to reach every phone. Check for the OTA update by going to Settings > System > System updates to check for the update. Follow the on screen instruction to execute update.

Note: Firmware will be available soon. Download correct firmware SKU for your phone. Wrong SKU may cause update failure.

Installation guide

1. Download Android Pie firmware from Asus website

2. Double click the firmware zip file to see another intact ZIP file inside it.

3. If there is another intact ZIP file, unzip the downloaded firmware zip file.

4. Connect your phone with PC via USB cable, and copy the ZIP file to the root directory of internal storage of phone.

5. Disconnect USB cable from the phone to make the notification for firmware update come up on status bar.

6. Tap “System Update File Detected…” and follow the onscreen instruction to update firmware.
