Few days ago, Google released Android 9 Pie stable version for Pixel devices. A ported version of Pixel Android Pie custom ROM (Pixel Experience ROM) is now available for Redmi Note 5 Pro, which brings Pie goodies and stock Google Pixel like experience on the device. If you are interested, below is the step-by-step guide to install it on your phone.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is one of the most popular devices. It may update to Android 9 Pie based MIUI 10 skin officially, but you need to wait several months to get it, as the company did not revealed any update time schedule. However, Pixel Experience custom ROM brings Android 9.0 (Pie) right now with all the goodies of Google’s latest OS.

Developed by the XDA senior member jhenrique09, the Pixel Experience ROM for Redmi Note 5/Pro (whyred) is beta, but everything is working fine like Wi-fi, RIL, Mobile data, GPS, Camera, Flashlight, etc. The only known bugs are hardware encryption and Miracast/wifi display brocken.

Regarding the Pixel Experience ROM, it is an AOSP based ROM (version: 9.0.0_r1), with Gapps (Google apps) and all Pixel stuffs, such as launcher, wallpapers, icons, fonts, boot animation, etc. are included in this ROM.

How to Install Pixel Experience ROM (PIE) on Redmi Note 5 Pro

1. Download Pixel Experiance ROM zip from development page here.

2. Save the file on your phone and then boot your phone into TWRP (Hold Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously. Continue to hold both buttons until the “MI” logo appears on the screen, then release).

3. In TWRP recovery, select Backup and create a Nandroid backup (recommended).

4. Now, select Wipe and then Advanced Wipe. Select Cache, System and Data partitions to be wiped and then Swipe to Wipe.

5. Go back to return to main menu, then select Install. Navigate to /sdcard, and select the OS .zip package. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the package.

6. Once the installation has finished, return to the main menu, select Reboot, and then System.
