Good news for Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro owners, who love custom ROMs! OxygenOS port is now available for the phone. It is based on Android 9 Pie (ported from newly released OxygenOS Open Beta 20 for OnePlus 5T), so Redmi Note 5 Pro users can enjoy the new features of the latest Android OS. Here is how to install the OxygenOS on Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Xiaomi is not yet announced official Android 9 Pie update for Redmi Note 5 Pro, while several custom ROMs based on the PIE are available for the device. OxygenOS is the latest addition that you can flash on the device via TWRP. No Gapps is required.

Before you start installing this build on your device, note that this port is based on the Open Beta of OxygenOS, which means the software unstable. You may bump into bugs and FC when using the phone, which cannot be ignored.

How to Install the OxygenOS on Redmi Note 5 Pro

1. Download OxygenOS_OB20_5T-9.0_20181213_whyred.zip from source here and save it on your phone.

2. Boot your Redmi Note 5 Pro into TWRP.

3. Select Wipe > Advanced wipe > and wipe cache, data, dalivk cache and system.

4. Now, select Install in TWRP, navigate and flash the OxygenOS zip file (just saved on the device)

5. Once the installation has finished, return to the main menu, select Reboot, and then System.

If you are coming from OnePlus 6 OXygenOS port, do a force reboot after flashing the ROM, or else you will end up with instability and bootloop.

To do so, open Power Menu -> Power Off -> wait until the phone vibrates -> Force Reboot by pressing power button. More details and discussions available at the source here.
