Although Google’ latest camera feature ‘Night Sight’ isn’t available on the Pixels 3, a modified version of the application has already been available for older Pixel phones and the result seem promising. The good news is that the working Night Sight is now available for other smartphones too. For now, Night Sight works only on Essential Phone and Xiaomi Mi 5, though the port is available on other phones like OnePlus 6.

Night Sight is a low light photography feature of latest Google camera app that brings great results in low light without using a flash. Since both Essential Phone and Xiaomi Mi 5 do not have Visual Core, the result of Night Sight isn’t as good as it in Pixel 2 and Pixel 3. However, the result seems encouraging.

If you are interested to test Night Sight on your Essential Phone or Xiaomi Mi 5, grab the APK from here [source] and install it. This feature uses long exposure time and some software technique to enhance low light photography. A big thanks to XDA Senior Member Arnova8G2 for the camera port with working Night Sight mode.

How to use the Night Sight feature of Google’s camera app? When you launch the camera at low light, it will automatically detect it and suggest using the Night Sight mode. You can also select the mode by swiping to ‘More’ and selecting Night.

When Night Sight mode is activated, the camera shutter displays a moon icon. Note that as the camera needs to more lights to capture, you need to wait few seconds in this mode.
