Asus ZenFone 4 Max updated with December 2018-security patch. A couple of months back, Asus rolled out ZenUI 5.0 update for ZenFone 4 Max with Android 8.1 Oreo. This new update (build 15.2016.1812.505) includes bug fixes, optimizations and ensures better security. Here is how to update the device by downloading the firmware.

Regarding ZenFone 4 Max ZC554KL Android 9 Pie update, the device will not receive an upgrade to the Android 9 Pie, but there is no official information yet. While the ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone Max (M1) and ZenFome Max Pro is expected to get the Android 9 Pie update in early 2019.

The latest Asus ZenFone 4 Max ZC554KL_ WW_15.2016.1812.505 update features the following:

– Update GMS 8.1_201809
– Update Android security patch to 2018/12/5
– Fix indicator behavior issue for low-battery

If you did not receive the OTA update notification for the update yet, check it manually by going to Settings -> About – > System Update. Alternatively, you can download the full update file (1.83 GB) and install manually.

Note that the update currently available for global variant ZenFone 4 Max ZC554KL (WW SKU only). Check your SKU version before downloading the firmware.

1. Download latest firmware update zip file for ZenFone 4 Max ZC554KL from here.

2. Double click the downloaded firmware zip file to see another zip file it. If another zip file found inside it, unzip the downloaded firmware zip file.

3. Connect the phone to your PC, move the update zip file to the root directory of your phone’s internal storage and then disconnect the phone from PC.

4. You will see firmware update notification popped up on status bar. Select it and follow steps to update firmware. After completing the installation, your phone will reboot into the new version.
