The first Android 13-based Nothing OS 1.5 Beta starts rolling out to the Nothing Phone (1). The update carries several new features and enhancements like the Material You design, wallpaper-based theme engine, app permissions, QR code scanner shortcut, and more. The stable Android 13 update probably will reach the device by January 2023.

The first public beta of Nothing OS 1.5 based on Android 13 is now available to the first batch of registered users. The second batch of users may get the update by the end of this month. [Update January 18, 2023] Nothing has released Nothing OS 1.5.1 HotFix update, which weighs around i25 MB with some critical bug fixes. The crucial bug fix in this update is related to the incorrect reporting of the amount of RAM available in real-time.

How to Download and Install Nothing OS Open Beta on Nothing Phone (1)?

Before starts installing the update, note that this is Beta software. It is not the final and could be unstable. You may not be able to use some apps, for example, Netflix and Google Pay, after installing this Nothing OS 1.5 beta software.

You can install the Nothing OS 1.5 beta either via sideloading the OTA or the Local upgrade method. Here is to install the update via the local upgrade method.

1. First, create a folder at the root of the internal storage and name it ota.

2. Download the OTA update ZIP file from the link below and save it to the newly created ota folder.

3. Now, open the phone app and dial ##682##. It will launch an offline update tool.

4. The offline tool will scan for an OTA file from internal storage and install it.

5. Alternatively, browse for the OTA package manually and follow the update wizard to apply it.

6. After completing the installation, reboot the device, and your phone will be on the latest firmware.
