Xiaomi Mi A1 is the first smartphone launched under the Android One program by the Chinese manufacturer. The device has got quick update in the beginning, but things have changed later. For example, the company rolled out February 2018 security update for Mi A1 a couple of days ago, and also there is no information whether this device get Android 8.1 Oreo update.

There is no official information about upgrading Mi A1 from Android 8.0 Oreo, but there is an alternate way to get Android 8.1 Oreo on the device. An unofficial version of fully working LineageOS 15.1 has been available for Mi A1, which means users can enjoy Android 8.1 Oreo on their device.

The status of the LineageOS 15.1 ROM is stable, so users can be used as a daily driver without much issue. Custom ROM fans can try the ROM right now, but obviously, users should have some familiarity with installing custom ROM.

1. Download the Unofficial LOS 15.1 from here [Development Page].

2. Download Android 8.1 compatible Gapps zip file from here.

3. Save both zip files on your device.

4. Boot your device into TWRP Recovery mode.

5. In TWRP, select Wipe and wipe your data partition fully

5. Now, select ‘Install’, choose the ROM zip file and swipe to install it.
