Magisk, the root and universal Systemless interface for Android now supports Huawei Mate 9 running Android Oreo. The below guide lets you know how to install Magisk and root Huawei Mate 9 and pass the SafetyNet check. You can either use TWRP (simple) or ADB interface (without TWRP) to install Magisk on the device. Both methods require unlocked bootloader.

For your information, Magisk is a powerful systemless interface for Android. Like Chainfire’s popular Systemless root, it enables root on the phone without modifying the system partition. Magisk can also hide root from Android SafetyNet, bank apps, game tamper checks and various other security apps, and supports Magisk modules.

Requirements

– Huawei Mate 9 running Andriod Oreo
– Unlocked Bootloader
– Copy of your Update.app
– Huawei Update Extractor (download) to extract and get your ramdisk.img
– Backup all data you have on the phone
– ADB and Fastboot tools installed on the PC

How to Install Magisk on Mate 9

If you have already installed TWRP (with decryption) on the phone, download Magisk zip file from here to your phone and directly flash it via TWRP. If TWRP recovery is not installed, use the below method (recommended).

1. Download the latest Magisk Manager APK from here to your phone and install it.

2. Now, download Mate 9 stock firmware (use Huawei Firmware Finder). Downloading file should be corresponding to the firmware installed on your device.

3. Unzip the downloaded firmware to get Update.app. Now, extract it using the Huawei Update Extractor to get stock ramdisk.img.

4. Transfer the stock ramdisk.img file to the internal storage of your device.

5. Open the Magisk Manager app, tap on Install > Install > Patch Boot Image File, and select the boot image file (you just transferred).

6. The Magisk Manager app will patch the stock boot image and save the patched file in the ‘MagiskManager’ folder.

7. Transfer the patched boot img file from your phone to the ADB folder (C:\adb) on your PC.

8. Inside the ADB folder, open command window (Press and hold the SHIFT key, right-click on an empty space and select ‘Open command window here’ from the menu.

9. Boot your phone into Fastboot mode and connect it to the PC and execute the below command:

fastboot flash ramdisk patched_boot.img

10. Once done, type the below command and hit Enter key to reboot the phone: fastboot reboot
