Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite, the second-generation Android One smartphone from the Chinese OEM gets October 2018 security update along with bug fixes and improvements. The OTA (over-the-air) update with build number 9.6.15.0 ODIMIFE starts rolling out to the devices in batches and it will take a week or more to complete the roll out. The OTA file is also available for download now that you can install manually via stock recovery.

Thanks to the Android One program, both Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will get monthly security patch updates as well as the upcoming Android 9 Pie update. The Android 9 Pie roll out for the device is expected by December 2018. The October security update (OPM1.171019.011.V9.6.15.0) will improve security of the handsets and fixes bugs. The update will also improve the stability and optimize the performance of the device.

Official ROM is now available for both Mi A2 (code- named jasmine) and Mi A2 Lite (code-named daisy). You can download Global stable ROM (Fastboot and Recovery) for Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite (latest build is v9.6.15.0 ODIMIFE) from the link below and flash via recovery or fastboot. Suggest a backup before proceeding.

You can download Mi A2 recovery ROM (v9.6.15.0) from here and fastboot ROM from here (will be updated soon). Mi A2 Lite recovery firmware can be downloaded from here (link will be updated soon) and fastboot ROM from here (will be updated soon).

Before go for the manual method, check for the October OTA update manually on your device by going to Settings > About Phone > Software updates > to check for the new software update. This is the safest method to update the device to latest version.

If you prefer manual installation, transfer the recovery ROM to your phone, boot your phone into recovery mode, select apply update from sd card, choose the OTA update zip file (recovery ROM) to flash it.

If you downloaded the fastboot ROM, then follow this detailed installation instruction. The procedure is bit lengthy, but lets you install the latest software update regardless of software version you have on the phone.
