Official LineageOS 15.1 Brings Android 8.1 Oreo on Redmi Note 4 (Installation Guide)

0

The Lineage OS development team has released official LineageOS 15.1 for Redmi Note 4, which brings Android 8.1 Oreo onto the device. Chances for getting the MIUI 9 based 8.1 Oreo update on Redmi Note 4 is rare, so the best way to get the latest Android on this device is LineageOS 15.1 – the best custom ROM available so far.

The official LineageOS 15.1 supports Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon variant (code-named mido) only. With this build, users can enjoy all the features of Android 8.1 Oreo along with Lineage OS features. The latest build also includes Android P’s Lockdown for Power menu, Cyan accent to system theme, GDPR-compliant dialer, improved Contacts app, dark UI for File manager Jelly browser and much more.

Redmi Note 4

Official LineageOS 15.1 is now available for a number of devices, which includes Xiaomi Mi Note 2, Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+, OnePlus, Nexus and Pixel devices, HTC One A9, and more.

Below is the LOS 15.1 installation instruction for Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon variant. Keep in mind that the status of the custom ROM is ‘Nightly’ which means the ROM is not fully stable. However, it can be used as a daily driver.

Prerequisites:

– Unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery on phone
– Backup all data you have on the phone before proceeding
– Battery charge above 50% to prevent accidental shutdown while flashing

Note: The installation procedure always requires custom recovery on your Redmi Note 4, better if TWRP.

2. Download Android 8.1 compatible Gapps.zip file (arm64 version) [here] and save to your phone

4. In TWRP recovery, select Backup, select all required partitions and create a backup (recommended).

5. Next, select Wipe > Advanced Wipe > select Cache, System and Data partitions to be wiped and then Swipe to Wipe.

6. Next, select Install. Navigate and select the ROM .zip package.

7. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the package. Once done, install Gapps zip file also.
