Good news for Nexus 5X owners! First Android 9 Pie based AOSP custom ROM has been released for the device. Interested users can try the ROM right on their device and experience Android 9 Pie features. In the next paragraphs, we will explain the installation requirements and installation procedure for Android Pie based unofficial AOSP ROM on Nexus 5X (bullhead).
This is the first experimental build based on Android Pie for Nexus 5X, and many things do not work as expected. However, things like Boot, Power, Fingerprint and RIL are working without much issue. The developer of the ROM assured a stable build in the future.
This custom ROM requires clean installation. Users need to wipe system before flashing the ROM. In addition, to get this ROM work on Nexus 5X, users need to flash Sphinx kernel (necessary) as well. The ROM does not includes Google apps and services like Play store, so users need to flash Google Apps package (compatible with Android 9.0.0) to get Google features.

Installation Requirements:
– Unlocked bootloader, root access and TWRP on Nexus 5X
– Android 9 Pie AOSP Custom ROM (download from source)
– Sphinx kernel (download)
– Android 9.0 compatible Gapps package (download from source)
Installation guide:
1. Transfer all the downloaded zip files (ROM, Gapps and Kernel) to Nexus 5X internal storage.
2. Boot the phone into TWRP and backup system, vendor, boot, data
3. In TWRP, select Wipe and wipe data and system
4. Now, select Install in TWRP and flash ROM, then flash Sphinx kernel (necessary) and then flash Google Apps package.
5. Finally, reboot the phone.
