Download December 2018 Security for Essential Phone PH-1

Essential has started rolling their December security patch for Essential Phone PH1. The update comes as build number PPR1-1810005.099 and weighs around 58MB. It is rolling out via OTA (over the air) for users around the globe. If you have not received the update notification, check it manually.

Apart from the December patches (2018-12), the update does not include any other major changes. Check your update by heading to Settings > About Device > System update. If you cannot install the OTA update, you can download the OTA or Fastboot ROM and flash it manually.

If you prefer to install the new December update (build PPR1-1810005.099) manually, then follow our guide. Before start, backup important data and ensure more than 50% battery charge on the phone.

How to Update December 2018 Security for Essential Phone

OTA Update Method:

1. Download PH1-OTA- PPR1-1810005.099.zip file from here and save inside ADB/Platform tools folder on the PC.

2. Power off the phone, press Volume Up and Power button simultaneously to boot into stock recovery mode.

3. In the stock recovery, select ‘Apply update from ADB’ and then connect the phone to PC.

4. Open a command window from ADB/Platform tools folder and verify that the device is connected with PC using the command “adb devices”

5. Now, type the command “adb sideload ota_file.zip” and hit enter.

[ota_file.zip is the name of the file you downloaded]

6. Once the update installation finishes, select “Reboot system now”.

Factory Image Method:

Note: This method required unlocked bootloader on Essential Phone (check this guide). This method is recommended for devices runs custom ROM or rooted. Backup all data before proceeding.

1. Download PH1-Images- PPR1-1810005.099.zip full ROM zip file from here, unzip the downloaded factory image and save all the content inside ADB/Platform tools folder

2. Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlock on Essential PH-1

3. Power off the phone and press Power + Volume Up buttons to boot into Bootloader mode.

4. Connect the Phone to PC using the USB cable.

5. Go to ADB/Platform tools folder and double-click on ‘flashall.bat’ file to install the update.

Once the update installation finishes, your phone will reboot into the new system (source)
