Xiaomi regularly pushes new firmware update for its Mi, Redmi, and Poco series devices, and as usual, users will receive the update over the air (OTA). Some units will receive the update ahead of others, and others need to wait a few days or weeks, but you can also check the update manually by going to the system update menu. However, sometimes you will get can’t connect to the network error while checking for the update.

When you are checking for a new software update on your Xiaomi or Redmi phone, sometimes you may end up with the error message ‘Can’t connect to the network’. There are two reasons for this issue. Most often, this type of error is related to network connection (Wi-Fi or LTE connection), so first check connection and speed.

  • Go to Settings > Manage apps > Show system apps > and tap on the Updater app.
  • Clear data and restart your phone.
  • It should resolve the network issue.

  1. Followed the instructions, cleared Data and Cache and rebooted the phone but still the same problem “Couldn’t connect to the network”.

  2. The updater app is there, but the procedure may vary. Go to Settings > App > Manage apps > Show All apps > scroll down and tap on the Updater app.
    Clear data and restart your phone.
