One of the new features of Android 4.4 KitKat is “Smart Caller ID” that enables you to know more about a caller (business name, photo ID, etc.), even if his or her phone number not in your contacts. Google makes use of its database to show a caller’s details. Also, this feature will expand further by including personal Google+ accounts with verified phone number in early 2014.

In short, anyone with a verified phone number and “Discovery option” turned on in their Google+ profile will have their names and profile photos display on each other’s Android phone when calling.

Note: This feature is not live yet, but it goes live on all Android 4.4 Kitkat smartphones very soon.

If you are unhappy with this feature, you can turn off it. To turn off this feature, sign in your Google account or go to https://www.google.com/settings/phone and uncheck the option “Help people who have your phone number find you on Google services and connect with you“.
