Xiaomi is working on Android 9.0 Pie update for Redmi Mi MIX 2S, but there is no official information regarding the update for other Mi and Redmi devices. Xiaomi’s first Android One phone Mi A1 will definitely get the update, but the update time frame is not available now. Meanwhile, you can install the Android 9 Pie AOSP ROM on Mi A1.

Android 9.0 Pie AOSP Port has already been available for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Mi 3 and Mi 4, etc. If you want to taste the latest Pie on your Mi A1, then follow our installation guide. The status of this ROM port is stable and the known issues are hardware encryption and AOSP camera broken. You can use other camera app like Gcam.

If you are excited to taste some features of the Android 9 Pie, then you can download and install the AOSP ROM via TWRP. Installation is simple, but requires a clean flash. Back up all important data before flashing the custom ROM.

Note that this custom ROM includes GApps, so you do not need to flash the Open GApps package separately.

How to Install Android 9.0 Pie AOSP Port on Mi A1

1. Download the ROM zip file (latest build) from source here.

2. Transfer both the files to your phone’s internal storage.

3. Boot into TWRP and create a backup of system, vendor, boot, and data.

4. In TWRP, select Wipe and wipe data and system.

5. Now, select Install in TWRP and flash ROM.

6. Finally, reboot the phone.
