Quick Heal Technologies, the leading Internet Security tools and anti-virus software provider in India has started a new, free service known as TrackMyLaptop to locate stolen laptop by using your system’s MAC address. If your laptop or netbook contains personal details, it is very urgent for you to locate it.

The TrackMyLaptop service is available for all laptop users in India. The only requirement is your laptop’s MAC Address. Quick Heal will regularly search through its database and in case it finds a match, it’ll notify you the IP address and the corresponding city where laptop is being used.

The police or law enforcement authority can utilize this information and contact the concerned Service Providers to track the stolen laptop.

How to find your MAC address?

For Windows XP users: Go to Control Panel – Network and Internet connections – Network connection. Double click on Local Area Connection – Support – Details. The value corresponding to Physical Address is the MAC ID.

For Windows 7 Users: Go to Control Panel – Network and Sharing Center – View Status – The Local Area Connection Status dialog box opens. Click Details button. The value corresponding to Physical Address is the MAC ID.

Of course, TrackMyLaptop is an excellent initiative from Quick Heal to help and trace stolen laptops. However, it depends on how the stranger uses your stolen laptop. More detailed information and free registration available at here. (via)
