Microsoft has officially announced the availability of Windows 8 editions. It will be available mainly in three flavors – Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro for PCs that runs on x86 processors (both 32/64 bit) and Windows RT for tablets that runs on ARM processors. Unlike Windows 7, which has several editions from starter to ultimate to choose, Windows 8 has only 3 editions, which make it easier for consumers to know what edition will work best for them.
In addition to the above mentioned three editions, there would be a Windows 8 Enterprise edition for enterprise customers. The enterprise edition will have all the features of Windows 8 Pro plus features required for IT organization that enable PC management and deployment, advanced security, virtualization, new mobility scenarios, and much more.
As told above, Windows RT is meant for ARM tablets and will only be available pre-installed on PCs and tablets powered by ARM processors. It will include touch-optimized desktop versions of the new Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
