LG now officially supports bootloader unlock for US variant LG G6 with model number US997. Earlier this month, LG granted bootloader unlock permission for European variant LG G6 (H870). Meanwhile, TeamWin has released official TWRP custom recovery for LG G6, which means tech-savvy users can now gain root and perform various development on the device like installing custom ROMs.

At present unlocked variant of LG G6 supports unlocking the bootloader. However, keep in mind that, even if LG officially allows unlocking the bootloader, this process will void the device’s warranty. Also, the process cannot be reversed. It will also factory reset your device, so proceed at your own risk.

TeamWin has released its TWRP custom recovery for LG G6, but currently it is available for international variant LG G6 with model number H870 only. TWRP enables you to gain root on your device by flashing latest SuperSU and install custom ROMs, and perform various other things.

After unlocking the bootloader, you can install TWRP recovery. Installing TWRP is a simple process. All you need to download the TWRP recovery image [HERE] to your PC, boot the device into bootloader mode and run the command ‘fastboot flash recovery twrp.img’.
