The most popular custom ROM LineageOS has extended the supported device list with Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. The development team released the first LineageOS 15.1 (based on Android 8.1 Oreo) nightly build for the device. If you would like to install the build on your device, you can download it right now and flash through TWRP recovery.

LineageOS 15.1 is now available for many devices. Last time we covered for Xiaomi Mi Note 2, OnePlus, Nexus Player, Le Max 2 and more. Now, the Exynos variant Galaxy S9 (starlte) and Galaxy S9+ (star2lte) have the build and the team is working to add more devices to the list, which includes Nexus 4, Moto Z, etc.

LineageOS 15.1 now available for Samsung Galaxy S9

LineageOS 15.1 is feature-rich ROM and offers several customization options. The latest build will bring Android P’s Lockdown to Power menu, Cyan accent to system theme, GDPR-compliant dialer, improved Contacts app, dark UI for File manager and Jelly browser, updated Chromium webview version and along with stock Oreo features.

As you all know, to install the LineageOS build, you should first replace your device’s stock recovery with TWRP. Download TWRP recovery for Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ and use Odin or Heimdall method to flash TWRP.

Installation Instruction:

  • Download LOS 15.1 zip for Galaxy S9 (starlte) and S9+ (start2lte) and transfer it to your phone.
  • Boot your Galaxy S9/S9+ into TWRP
  • Create a Nandroid backup
  • Wipe cache, data, system and dalvik
  • Tap on ‘Install’, navigate and install LOS 15.1
  • Reboot your phone and enjoy.

Note that, as the ROM does not include Gapps (Google apps and services), users need to flash open Gapps (8.1, arm64) after flashing the ROM to get Play store and other Google features.
