The wait for Android 9 Pie update for your Nokia 5 is over. HMD Global starts rolling out the Pie update for its mid-range device Nokia 5. If you have not received the OTA notification on your device yet, then you can download and install the official Pie firmware (V6.12E) manually. The good news is that all currently available Nokia phones will upgraded to Android 9 Pie. Many Nokia smartphones have already been updated to Android 9 Pie, including Nokia 8, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1 Plus and now Nokia 5. It is an entry-level device launched in 2017 with Android Nougat. Android 9 Pie might be the last major software upgrade for this two-year old device.

As you may know, the OTA update roll out take place in phases, so it will take a couple of days to complete. If you have not the update yet on your Nokia 5, force check it by going to your phone Settings > System > System updates and check for any available update or wait for the OTA.

Prerequisites

1. Make a complete backup of your phone, including apps, contacts, messages, and media files.

2. Your phone should be runs in stock Android Oreo ROM – now TWRP, root, or Magisk installed

3. Ensure more than 60% battery charge remaining on your phone

4. ADB and Fastboot driver setup on your PC

How to Install Android 9 Pie Stable Update on Nokia 5

1. Download Nokia 5 Android 9 Pie Stable OTA update ZIP file from here.

2. Save the OTA zip file on your PC (inside ADB installation folder/Platform Tools folder)

3. Boot Nokia 5 into stock Recovery

[To do so, turn off the phone completely. Press and hold Power + Volume Up buttons together until ‘No command’ appears on the screen. Hold the Power button and tap the Volume Up key once to enter into stock recovery]

4. From stock Recovery, navigate to ‘Apply update from ADB’ option [use Volume keys to navigate and select it using Power button]

5. Connect your phone to your PC via a USB cable

6. Open a command window from where the Android 9 Pie OTA zip file is saved

7. Execute the command ‘adb devices’ to ensure your connection with your PC. [You will see your device ID. If not, install proper driver files on the PC]

8. Now, type the command ‘adb sideload ota-update.zip’ and hit Enter key

[Replace the “ota-update.zip” with the actual filename of the OTA file]

9. Once the installation process finishes, select ‘Reboot system now’ on your phone.
