In this guide, we let you know how to unlock bootloader of brand new OnePlus 6T. For various reasons you might want to unlock the bootloader of your device. For example, installing a custom recovery like TWRP, getting root, installing custom ROM, etc. However, keep in mind that bootloader is a security feature of OnePlus 6T, so do not proceed unless you have a specific reason for unlocking the bootloader.
OnePlus 6T was launched a few days ago with upgraded design and new features over the OnePlus 6. Water drop cut out display and in display fingerprint reader are the most attractive features of OnePlus 6T. As usual, OnePlus allow users to unlock the bootloader of OnePlus 6T, but the process will factory reset the device.
Prerequisites:
– You need to install OnePlus 6T’s drivers on your computer
– ADB and Fastboot drivers installed on your PC
– Enable USB debugging and OEM unlock.
Warning: Unlocking the bootloader will not void the warranty of the OnePlus 6T, but we strongly recommend to only unlock the bootloader if you are confident that you understand the risks involved.
Important: Mmake sure to backup all important files, as unlocking bootloader will wipe files and data on your device.
How to Unlock OnePlus 6T bootloader
#Enable USB debugging and OEM unlock
1. Go to Phone Settings > About Phone > Tap Build number 7 times.
2. Go to Phone Settings > Developers Options > Enable USB debugging and Enable OEM unlock
#Connect OnePlus 6T to PC
1. Connect your OnePlus 6T to your computer. Select Always allow from this computer and click OK.
2. Boot your OnePlus 6T into Bootloader/Fastboot mode (Press POWER + VOLUME UP buttons)
3. Whilst in Bootloader/Fastboot mode, connect your OnePlus 6T to your PC and allow the drivers to install.
4. Go to the ADB installation folder on your PC and open a command window from there (press Shift key, right click and select Open a command window option)
5. Run below code to ensure fastboot is working:
fastboot devices
6. If your device’s serial number listed, you can continue with the unlocking process. If not, install proper driver file.
#How to Unlock Bootloader
7. To unlock your OnePlus 6T bootloader, run the below code:
fastboot oem unlock
8. This will unlock OnePlus 6T’s bootloader. In the screen, choose ‘Yes’ and it will reboot automatically.
You can check unlock status of your device by issuing the command ‘fastboot oem device-info’. If the device is unlocked, you will get ‘true’.
