HCL ME U1 is a low cost, 7-inch capacitive touch screen tablet powered by Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.3). Unfortunately, it misses one important feature. It comes without the Google Play Store app. Whenever people try to install Play Store APK, they will get an error message “Unfortunately Google play stopped working”.
Though this tablet includes a “Me App” store for downloading apps, it is useless (at least for me) in many reasons. Here is how to install Google Play Store App on HCL ME U1 tablet.
Installing Google Play Store App on HCL ME U1 is a tricky job. First of all, download and install latest Play Store APK. Make sure you have enabled “Unknown sources” option on your tablet by going to Settings > Application > Unknown sources.
If above method isn’t worked for you follow the instruction given below.
– Download and install a free program called “Android Commander” on your Windows computer.
– Download Play Store apk from here (updated) (or search on the internet for the latest one)
Now connect your HCL ME tablet to your PC via USB cable . You may require drivers for your HCL U1. (Follow this instruction if you don’t have its driver in hand).
Run Android Commander and select “System” and then “App” folder. Copy and paste the Play Store apk into the App folder. Also transfer Play Store apk to your SD card.
Now, restart your tablet. You’ll get ‘android upgrading’ message, but soon you will get “Unfortunately Google play stopped working” message. However, try to open Google Play, it will show an error “Unfortunately Google stopped working” again.
Now go to your SD card where you have Google play apk. Tap on it to install. You will get a message that you are replacing main application etc. Say ok.
Now Google play should work. You can download apps and games from Google Play Store. That’s all!
