Google begins to add dark mode to its Android operating system with Android 10, and it was one of the most anticipated features of the OS. The bright white interface of apps can be an eyesore, especially in the dim light environment, so this is a welcome move from Google.

Most of the Google apps, including the Play Store app, have a dark mode or dark theme. On some apps, the dark mode is turned on automatically, while others have internal switches to turn on it. Google Play Store dark mode is a server-side update, and there is no switch to turn on it.

Dark mode or called dark theme, shifts apps interface from blinding white to black or dark gray. The main advantages of the dark theme are it is easy on eyes and little impact on battery power. Not just Google apps, many third-party apps have also shifted to a dark theme. For example, Instagram enabled dark mode.

Not only in Android 10 and in Android 9, dark mode is available in older Android versions as well. Many stock apps for Android 8 has already has it, and Google may soon rollout dark theme for Play Store on older Android versions.
