Update: Xiaomi pulled the Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Mi A1 due to various issues. We do not recommend users to install this update. If new update available we will publish it. Xiaomi may release a fix for those who have already updated.

It’s been over six months since Xiaomi rolled out Android 8.0 Oreo update for Mi A1. Finally, Xiaomi starts rolling out the Android 8.1 Oreo update for its Mi A1 that was released under the Android One program. The Android 8.1 Oreo update (V9.6.3.0) includes several UI changes, performance improvements, bug fixes and June 2018 Android security patch.

According to reports, Xiaomi Mi A1 Android 8.1 Oreo OTA update starts getting in some regions with build number OPM1.171019.019.V9.6.3.0.ODHMIFE and it will take several days to complete the roll out. In fact, Mi A1 Oreo 8.1 firmware (build OPM1.171019.019.V9.6.3.0.ODHMIFE) has also available for download.

If you are excited to get the Android 8.1 Oreo right now on your Mi A1, you can download and install it. However, check for the OTA update manually by going to Settings > About Phone > Software updates > to check for the new software update.

How to Install Android 8.1 Oreo on Xiaomi Mi A1

Before start with the installation, backup your data on the phone. For a successful installation, phone battery should be at least 50% charged.

1. Download Android 8.1 (OPM1.171019.019.V9.6.3.0.ODHMIFE) OTA update for Mi A1 (codenamed tissot) from here.

2. Transfer the OTA update zip file to your phone’s internal storage

3. Boot your phone into recovery mode, and select apply update from sd card.

4. Choose the OTA update zip file to flash it. Once done, your phone will reboot.

If the above method does not work for you, then follow this ADB sideload method. It requires ADB and Fastboot driver setup on your computer. (Source – 1, 2)
