Sony has started to roll out official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Xperia Z2 series phones. Currently the update is available for the carrier specific Xperia Z2 D6503 variant (Vodafone Germany) and it is expected that the generic version of the firmware will be released soon for other variants of Xperia Z2.

As the firmware is rolled out in phases, it will take few days to reach the Lollipop update on all Xperia Z2 devices. However, if you cannot wait for the update, you can update it manually using the ftf file. In this guide, we show you to update your Xperia Z2 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with firmware version 23.4.A.0.546.



Besides the Lollipop features like Material design, the new Android 5.1.1 update for Xperia Z2 (build 23.4.A.0.546) will also bring Sony’s own features, which includes Camera improvements, many customization options, smart Wear integration, enhanced enterprise support and brand new LinkedIn integration.

Installation Instruction

Requirements: Xperia Z2 drivers must be installed on your computer.

Important: The below mentioned file is for Xperia Z2 D6503 only. It should not be installed on other variants. Details below:

Release: 23.4.A.0.546 / R7c

1. Download the Flash tool zip file [HERE] and extract it. Then install the Flash tool on your computer.

2. Download the Xperia Z2 (D6503) firmware ftf file [HERE]

3. Copy the firmware .ftf file to the ‘Firmware’ folder, which will be created when you extracted the Flash Tool.

5. Open Flash Tool on your PC and click on Flash. It will ask you to connect your phone in flashmode. Power off your phone, hold Volume down button and then plug your USB cable in.

6. Wait for it to flash then disconnect your phone and reboot.
