Motorola starts rolling out new software update for Moto G5 Plus (build NPNS25.137-93-4) with January 2018 security patches, alongside KRACK Wi-Fi vulnerability fix. The update also includes changes that fix bugs and improve the stability of the phone. The OTA (over the air) update is currently seeding to Brazilian variant Moto G5 Plus (XT1683) and for other region variant the update is imminent.
Motorola has also started rolling out January 2018 security update for Moto G4 Plus (build NPIS26.48-36-2) and Moto G5S Plus (build NPSS26.116-64-2) with fix for KRACK vulnerability. As this new software update brings important improvements to the phone, all Moto G5 Plus users are recommended to update to this new version. The update will fix critical vulnerabilities that affect your device and ensure better securities (security patch level January 1, 2018).
As the OTA update is rolling out in phases, it will take several days to get on your device. If you have not received OTA notification message for this update, follow the steps below to manually update your phone.
Before proceeding, ensure at least 50% battery charge remaining on the phone.
Go to Settings > About phone > System updates. Select “Yes, I’m in”. After the software is downloaded, select “Install now”. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.

How to Install January 2018 Security update on Moto G5 Plus Manually
1. Download Moto G5 Plus (Potter) OTA zip file (NPNS25.137-93-4) from here (coming soon).
2. Save the downloaded xml zip file to root of the memory card.
3. Now, go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates.
4. Update will be auto recognized the file and user will be prompted to apply update.
