It seems that Xiaomi is hard working to release MIUI 9, its next major Android OS update. According to latest official report, MIUI 9 will be released on or before August 16, 2017. Also, the previous MIUI release history confirms this report. Typically, Xiaomi releases its major MIUI OS update in August, so MIUI 9 launch should be in August, but exact date is not yet officially announced. It should be on or before August 16.
Xiaomi is preparing to include various new usability features and functions to MIUI 9. It will be a lighter and simpler ROM. According to latest news, the recent Android OS development like Picture-in-Picture mode and Split Screen mode will be included in MIUI 9. Picture-in-Picture mode is a feature of Android O (Android 8.0) that allows users to separate a video from its player so that it is always viewable while using other apps.
While, the Split Screen feature enables users to run two apps side by side on a single screen. It will work both in landscape and portrait mode. This feature is now available for Pixel and Nexus phones. Xiaomi Mi and Redmi users can experience this feature with MIUI 9.
Now, the question here is which Mi/Redmi devices are likely to get the MIUI 9 update. Xiaomi did not announce any device list yet. However, it seems that most of the Xiaomi phones launched recently will definitely get the MIUI 9 update.
However, it does not mean that every recently launched Mi/Redmi device will get the MIUI 9 update. Low end devices like Redmi 4A may not get the update, but we are uncertain about it. (Source – MIUI)
