The popular custom recovery TWRP is now available for Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (code-named Oxygen). TeamWin has released TWRP (twrp-3.2.1-0-oxygen.img) for the device, which is certainly a good news for custom ROM fans and those who looking for development on their handset. Here is how to replace Xiaomi Mi Max 2 stock recovery with official TWRP custom recovery.
Installing TWRP custom recovery on Xiaomi Mi Max 2 isn’t a too complicated process, but you should first obtain unlocking permission from Xiaomi and then unlock its bootloader. Keep in mind that the processes will void your device’s warranty and will not get further official software OTA update.

Note: You can also install TWRP on your device through official TWRP App downloaded from Play Store, but it requires root access on the phone.
How to Install TWRP on Xiaomi Mi Max 2
1. Download official TWRP (twrp-3.2.1-0-oxygen.img) image file from here and save it where ADB is installed on the PC.
2. On your phone, go to Developer Options and enable USB Debugging and OEM Unlock (If Developer Options not enabled, enable it first)
3. Connect your phone to your PC, go to ADB installation folder and open a command window from there.
4. Execute the below command to boot your phone into bootloader mode:
adb reboot bootloader
5. Now, execute the below command to flash TWRP on your device:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-oxygen.img
6. Once done, type the below command:
fastboot reboot
After typing ‘fastboot reboot’, press Power + Volume Up keys to boot into TWRP, otherwise, system will replace TWRP recovery. Now, you can get root by flashing SuperSU zip file Magisk zip file via TWRP.
