In this tutorial, we will show you how to manually update your Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9190 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat with official firmware. Samsung has already released Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA (Over The Air) update for Galaxy S4 Mini for various regions, but if you have any difficulty updating the firmware via OTA (due to a data connection issue) or via Samsung Kies, you can manually update your phone.

When the Galaxy S4 Mini 3G (GT-I9190) was launched, the firmware was Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but now Samsung released Android 4.4.2 KitKat update which will upgrade the firmware to I9190XXUCNJ3 build. Follow the guide below to know how to manually update Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9190 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat with official firmware.

Before you get start, please read the below guide carefully. This guide is intended only for technically talented users only.

Warning: Follow the instruction at your own risk. We will not be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

IMPORTANT: As always, make a full backup of any data (contacts, call logs, messages, etc.) by using any backup app.

Make sure the device has at least 70% battery charge. The process is battery intensive and if the process is interrupted, you will likely end up with a non-booting system.

a) Samsung drivers installed [Download and install to your PC from here]
b) Odin v3.09 [Download to your PC from here/here]
c) Firmware zip file [Download to your PC from here for your region]

Manually Update Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9190 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat

1. Enable USB debugging on your device (Settings-> Developer Options-> USB Debugging)

2. Unzip Odin3 3.09.zip file (you will get Odin.exe file) and Firmware zip file (you will get a file with .tar.md5 extension) on your computer.

2. Turn off Galaxy S4 mini and boot into Download mode [DO NOT connect the phone to PC]

3. To boot into Download mode, power off your phone, press the Volume (-), and Home buttons together. While holding these both buttons, you need to switch on your device.

4. Now run Odin.exe file and connect your phone to the computer, you will see the “Added!” message on Odin. If not, install the driver and reconnect your phone.

5. In the Odin, enable “Auto-Reboot” and “F.Reset Time” options.

6. Now, click the AP button and select the firmware file (the file with .tar.md5 extension)

7. Click the Start button in Odin and wait for a few moments to complete the process.

After completing the installation you will get “pass’ message on Odin. Then you phone will  reboot automatically. Any doubt, leave it in the comment section below.
