Official Android 9 Pie based OxygenOS update for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T is not yet announced. Users may need to wait a couple of months to get it. However, the AOSP 9.0 port brings Google’s latest Android 9.0 Pie update on both devices. Interested users can download and flash the custom ROM right now and enjoy new goodies of Pie.
Recently, many devices, including OnePlus One, OnePlus 2, OnePlus X, and OnePlus 3/3T have updated to Android Pie with AOSP custom ROM. If you own OnePlus 5 (cheeseburger) or OnePlus 5T (dumpling), you can download and install the AOSP 9.0 build to get latest features of Pie.
Developed by the XDA recognized contributor ‘Men_in_black007’, the status of the AOSP ROM port is stable, with everything is working fine like Wi-fi, RIL, Mobile data, GPS, Camera, Flashlight, etc. However, Hardware encryption, NFC and VoLTE are not working as expected.
The installation process is simple. All you need unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery (temporary) on the phone, but do not forget to back up all important data before flashing the custom ROM.
How to Install Android 9.0 Pie AOSP Port or OnePlus 5/5T
1. Download the ROM zip file for OnePlus 5 from source here and 5T from here. (also download Open GApps and TWRP from the source link).
2. Transfer downloaded zip files to your phone’s internal storage.
3. Boot into TWRP and create a backup of system, vendor, boot, and data.
4. In TWRP, select Wipe and wipe data and system.
5. Now, select Install in TWRP and flash ROM, then flash Google Apps package.
6. Finally, reboot the phone.
