In 2016, Samsung introduced ‘Always On Display’ (AOD) with Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Since then Samsung has made several improvements and added new features to this function. Always On Display (AOD) shows useful information that’s available at a glance, even if phone’s display is off. You can add animated GIFs, new clock faces, and even decorate the AOD screen with various themes.
The AOD display is further refined in Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9. Samsung added a new feature that lets you adjust the brightness of the AOD manually. It might be useful to reduce battery life as well as it will lessen the screen burn issue of AMOLED. In this tutorial, we show you how to adjust brightness of AOD manually on S9/S9+ and Note 9.
Note that AOD brightness level change is available only in Galaxy S9/S9 Plus and Galaxy Note 9. We hope Samsung will add this option to older Galaxy models with future software updates.
You can download Samsung Always On Display app from Play store and install it on a supported device to get new features and enhancements.
How to adjust AOD brightness in Galaxy S9/S9+ and Note 9
1. From the Apps screen, tap ‘Settings’ and then tap ‘Lock screen and security’.
2. Tap on ‘Always On Display’ and toggle the ‘Auto Brightness’ to off position.
3. You will get brightness level adjustment bar.
4. Set the desired brightness level using the slider.
Note: You can also adjust the AOD brightness level by double tapping the clock widget, but first you should turn off the auto-brightness option as described above.
If you set the brightness level near to the ground, the battery consumption will be minimal. However, note that Samsung has optimized the hardware on its devices to work ‘Always On Display’ without affecting the battery life.
