2. After downloading the fastboot ROM (with .tgz extension), follow this installation guide.

How to Globalize the MIUI 9 China ROM

The process requires root access on the phone, as you need to edit a system file (build.prop).

1. After installing MIUI 9, install TWRP recovery and then root it by using Magisk or SuperSU.

2. Open build.prop file ( you may use Build.Prop editor or a Root file explorer) and add below lines at the end of build.prop file:

ro.product.mod_device=scorpio_mam_global
ro.product.locale.language=it
ro.product.locale.region=IT
persist.sys.timezone=Europe/Rome
persist.sys.language=it
persist.sys.region=IT
ro.product.locale.language=it

Note:

In the codes above you can see ‘it’ and ‘IT’. Both are for region Italy. You should change them for your region accordingly.

Also, you will see ‘scorpio_mam_global’. ‘Scorpio’ is for Mi Note 2. It should change to your device. For example, Gemini for Mi 5, natrium for Mi 5s Plus, and so on.

Once done, reboot your phone and all the Chinese content from system apps like music, browser, etc. will completely disappear. (Source – XDA)
