July 2019 security update is available to ZenFone 4 Max with Android Auto compatibility improvements. It is comes with software version 15.2016.1907.519 and available for download on ZenFone 4 Max ZC554KL variant. The update is still based on Android 8.1 Oreo (ZenUI 5.0). Android 9 Pie update is expected to land on the device soon.
Android 9 Pie beta for ZenFone 4 Max has already been available for download as software version 16.0620.1905.10. Early adopters can install the Android 9 Pie beta to enjoy new UI, adaptive battery, adaptive brightness, new navigation gestures, dark theme, digital wellbeing, new notification system and more.
Comes to the stable Android 8.1 Oreo update, Asus starts rolling out new update with build number 15.2016.1907.519 to ZenFone 4 Max (ASUS_X00ID). Since the OTA rollout take place in phases, it will take few hours or few days or even weeks to get the OTA update on all devices.
Check for the new update manually by going to Settings -> About – > System Update. Alternatively, you can download the full update file (1.83 GB) and install manually.
Note that the update currently available for global variant ZenFone 4 Max ZC554KL (WW SKU only). Check your SKU version before downloading the firmware. In addition, once you upgraded to this version, you cannot downgrade to an older version.
