Xiaomi Redmi 4 and 4X recently got official LineageOS 15.1 support. The ROM will bring Android 8.1 Oreo, stock Android UI, latest security patch (Patch level November 2018) and a ton of new features and customization to Redmi 4 (code-named Santoni). Here is how to install official LineageOS 15.1 on Redmi 4/4X.

The Lineage OS team recently updated LineageOS 15.1 build with several optimizations, bug fixes and add-ons. In addition, the development team is working hard to prepare the next iteration of LineageOS, based on Android 9 Pie. Redmi 4 users can also expect the Android 9 Pie based LineageOS 16.0 sooner or later.

If you are interested, you can download and flash LineageOS 15.1 custom on your phone via TWRP custom recovery. If you are not aware on how to install custom ROM on your Redmi 4/4X, then check out the guide below. However, since this is a custom ROM, you may experience some unknown bugs.

Before jump into the installation process, make a backup of your entire data. Also, ensure more than 50% battery charge remaining on the phone to prevent any accidental shut down during the installation process.

How to Install LineageOS 15.1 Custom ROM on Redmi 4/4X

1. Download official LineageOS zip file from here and compatible (Android 8.1, arm 64) Gapps zip file from here. Save both zip files on your phone.

2. Boot your phone into TWRP (Hold Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously). If TWRP not installed, follow this guide.

3. In TWRP recovery, select Backup and create a Nandroid backup (recommended).

4. Back to main menu, select Wipe and then Advanced Wipe. Select Cache, System and Data partitions to be wiped and then Swipe to Wipe.

5. Back to main menu, and then select Install. Navigate to /sdcard, and select the ROM .zip package.

6. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the package. Once done, install Gapps zip file also.

7. Once installation has finished, return to the main menu, select Reboot, and then System.
