While it is simple to unlock the bootloader of a Google Pixel phone, Xiaomi’s Redmi, Mi, and Poco phones require you to register your device with your info before the bootloader unlocks on the device. But, after registering your phone, you can easily open the bootloader of your Redmi or Mi phone with a few simple steps.

Steps to Unlock Bootloader of Xiaomi Redmi Phone in 2021
Step 1: First, backup your Redmi phone, as the unlocking bootloader will delete all the data. To do so, go to Settings > About phone > Backup and restore > and choose your destination.
Step 2: Download the official Mi Unlock Tool on your computer (link) and install ADB and Fastboot drivers on your computer (guide).
Step 3: Now, open the Settings menu on your Redmi phone, tap on the Mi account option and log in with your mobile number. Then wait for at least one week.
Step 4: Now in Settings, go to Mi account > Mi Cloud and enable Sync, Find my device, and Sync all apps data options.
Step 5: Next, open the Settings menu, choose About phone, and tap on MIUI version 7 times to unlock the Developer Options menu. Once again, go to Settings > Additional Settings and tap on Developer Options.
Step 6: In the Developer options, enable OEM unlocking and USB Debugging.
Step 7: Next, turn on WiFi/mobile data on your Redmi phone. Then, go to the Developer Options menu, tap on Mi Unlock Status and link your Mi account.
Step 8: Now, turn off the phone, press the Power + Volume Down buttons together until you see the Mi Bunny image on the screen. Your Redmi phone will boot into Fastboot mode.
Step 9: Connect your computer to the phone via a USB cable and then run the Mi Unlock tool (you have downloaded it earlier). Sign in with the same Mi account that you are using on your phone.
Step 10: Mi Unlock tool should detect your phone. Now, click on the Unlock Now button to unlock the bootloader of your Redmi or Mi phone.
The unlocking process will complete in about 10 seconds. Once done, reboot your device. You can check the unlock status by going to the Developer Options menu and look the OEM unlocking option is enabled. You can now root your phone with Magisk, install TWRP recovery, and more.
