Samsung’s latest customized Android skin One UI is a vast improvement over the prior TouchWiz and Experience UI versions. In One UI, the controls are smart, gestures are intuitive, and it feels like a beautiful, advanced operating system. However, Samsung still follows some old styles on its phones, for example, the horizontal volume slider.
Starting with Android 9, Google changed the horizontal volume slider to the vertical volume slider. It is more convenient, as it is easily reachable with your thumb. However, Samsung does not yet utilize the vertical volume slider even in the One UI 2.0 (Android 10).
Though the latest One UI 2.0 features the horizontal volume slider, Samsung provides a way to change it to vertical. With the help of the latest version of Samsung Sound Assistant app (v3.3.07.0), you can switch to vertical volume sliding.

Steps to change volume slider style on Samsung Galaxy phone
To get vertical volume slider on your Samsung Galaxy phone, follow the steps. Keep in mind that it requires OneUI 2.0 (Android 10) on your device.
- Download and install the latest version of the Samsung SoundAssistant app from Play Store (link) or Samsung App store (link) on your Galaxy phone.
- After installation, open SoundAssistant.
- Go to Volume panel theme > Sero > choose Right or Left volume slider.
Note that the volume panel theme should be set to Sero. The Classic theme won’t bring the vertical slider.
Samsung Sound Assistant has several other features as well for One UI. You can make the volume panel floating, per-app volume control, enhance audio with equalizer, and more. (source)
Alternate method to get vertical volume slider on Galaxy phone:
There are third-party apps, such as the Volume Styles, to change your Android phone’s volume panel style and position. Volume Styles is one of the best apps (download link) with several volume slider styles, option to choose vertical/horizontal position, and left-hand or right-hand position on your Samsung Galaxy phone.
The app supports all Android phones, so not just on Samsung Galaxy phone, you can use it on any phone make.
