Amazon has just released a free Kindle application for Android smartphone that lets you search and read more than 600,000 Amazon Kindle books, including several New York Times bestsellers without a Kindle.

This application incorporate the popular WhisperSync technology that can synchronize your last page read and annotations between devices automatically, which means, read few pages on your Android or iPhone and pick up right where you left off when you return to your Kindle.

Kindle for Android have the following key features:

  • Automatically synchronizes your last page read and annotations between devices with Whispersync
  • Adjust the text size, add bookmarks, and view the annotations you created on your Kindle, computer, or other Kindle-compatible device
  • Read in portrait or landscape mode
  • Tap on either side of the screen or flick to turn pages

The free application requires Android OS 1.6 or higher. Android users can download it free at Amazone.
