Xiaomi’s Android smartphones (called as Mi and Redmi) are excellent in features, specifications, design and price, but MIUI – the custom version of Android that the phones run on – comes bundled with several bloatwares (pre-installed apps). Many of these apps are useless for most users, unnecessarily clog the home screen, and sometime affect the system performance.

Since these are system apps, you cannot uninstall them in usual way. However, there is couple of ways to uninstall or at least disable these bloatware from Xiaomi phones without root. One method is via ADB command and the second method is using a free app called MIUI Hidden Settings.

If you prefer ADB method, follow this guide for detailed instruction. This method does not require root on the phone, but it requires a computer with ADB and Fastboot driver setup on it.

With MIUI Hidden Settings, you can uninstall or disable system apps without ADB command and root access. Note that the app is not just a system apps uninstaller. It is also lets you access many hidden settings of your Xiaomi phone.

The app only supports Mi/Redmi phones running on Android Nougat or Oreo. When you launch the app, it lets you choose Android 8 and Android 7. Choose the Android version (MIUI version) your phone is running on.

Here is how to use MIUI hidden settings to uninstall/disable bloatware

1. Install MIUI Hidden Settings app from Play Store and open it.

2. Choose the Android version

3. Tap on the Manage Applications entry

4. Scroll over and tap on the app you want to uninstall/disable from your device

5. Tap on “Disable” or “Uninstall” option. That’s it!
