MKTwitter is a handy utility to backup twitter messages on your hard drive. You can download your own tweets or others that you find useful and can be saving them in an access database file.

The application is extremely simple to use. Just run it (no installation required), enter the Twitter username of the person whose tweets you want to back up (no password is needed) and click ‘Get Tweet’ button.
