WhatsApp introduced a new feature dubbed ‘Change Number’, which lets users migrates their WhatsApp account to their new phone number very easily. Until recently, it was not an easy process. If a user use this feature, WhatsApp will notify in all existing groups that a user has changed his/her phone number. Therefore, the user no longer needs to join the group again.

If you want to use your new phone number with your existing WhatsApp account, then you can use this new Change Number feature. All your groups, account info and settings will be migrated to your new phone number. The chat history will also preserve when a user uses this feature.

WhatsApp starts rolling out this feature to all beta participants (version 2.18.97) for Android. If you have not updated yet, check for the new update or join for the beta testing.

The new feature is available under Account settings menu (Settings > Account > Change Number). With this feature, migrating from an old phone number to a new phone number is very simple – just need to add both old and new phone number and follow the instruction.

Once a user adds both phone numbers, WhatsApp will ask which contacts have to be notified about your new number. You can choose all contacts, or contact whom you have chatted with you, or specify custom contacts.

However, regardless of your settings, your entire group will notify your new number change. Does this feature helpful to you? Let us know in the comment. (Source)
