Last month Google released the Android 9.0 Pie update for Pixel series phones. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 will not get the official Pie update, but its owners can enjoy Android 9 Pie and stock features with Pixel Experience ROM. Based on the Android 9.0.0_r1, the AOSP ROM bring Google Pixel experience to Redmi Note 3 (Kenzo). The ROM is almost stable, so it can be used as a daily driver.

In this guide, we show you how to install Android 9 Pie based Pixel Experience ROM on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (Kenzo). Besides Android Pie features, the ROM includes latest security patch (August), Google apps and all Pixel goodies, such as launcher, wallpapers, icons, fonts, bootanimation, etc.

Developed by the XDA senior member ‘Carlos Arriaga’, the status of Pixel Experience ROM for Redmi Note 3 is beta, but everything is working fine like Wi-fi, RIL, Mobile data, GPS, Camera, Flashlight, etc. The only known bugs are hardware encryption and Selinux Enforcing.

Note: To install this custom ROM, you should first unlock Redmi Note 3 bootloader and then flash TWRP recovery on it.

How to Install Android 9 Pie (Pixel Experience ROM) on Redmi Note 3

1. Download Pixel Experiance ROM (PixelExperience_kenzo-9.0-20180902-0022-OFFICIAL.zip) from here [development page].

2. Save the ROM zip file on phone storage.

3. Boot Redmi Note 3 into TWRP. To do so, hold Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously. Continue to hold both buttons until the “MI” logo appears on the screen, then release.

4. In TWRP recovery, select Backup and create a Nandroid backup (recommended).

5. Return to TWRP main screen, select Wipe > Advanced Wipe and wipe cache, system and data partitions.

6. Go back to TWRP main screen, select Install > navigate to /sdcard, select the ROM.zip package and follow the on-screen prompts to install the package.

7. Once the installation has finished, return to the main TWRP menu, select Reboot, and then System.
