This method does not require any complicated settings or root access. All you need to install latest version of Nova Launcher 5.4.1 and enable the navigation bar hide and unhide option.

Nova launcher is one of the most popular homescreen replacement apps and the latest version (Nova Launcher 5.4.1) adds an option to hide/unhide navigation bar on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8.

Hide Navigation bar on Galaxy S8/Galaxy Note 8

1. Install Nova launcher (it is free) from Play store [here] and set it as your default launcher.

2. Open the Nova Launcher Settings menu (long tap on the home screen), select ‘Look & Feel’ and enable the option ‘hide navigation bar’.

3. The navigation bar will be hidden immediately, even on the home screen.
