Xiaomi has upgraded its Android One edition Mi A2 to stable Android 9 Pie with exiting new features, UI changes and improvements. Both the Recovery and Fastboot ROM (V10.0.2.0.PDIMIFJ) download now officially available, if you go for manual installation. Read on to know how to install official Android 9 Pie Fastboot ROM on Xiaomi Mi A2.
If you have made any system modification or installed TWRP recovery on your Mi A2, you will not get the Android Pie update via OTA. In that case, you need to install the fastboot ROM via ADB. There are two methods to install Android 9 Pie Fastboot ROM on Xiaomi Mi A2. The below guide explains them in details.

– ADB and Fastboot driver setup on the PC (details)
– Unlocked bootloader & USB Debugging enabled in your phone
– Backup all important data
– More than 50% battery charge remaining

How to Back up Mi phone?:
Go to Settings > Additional Settings > Backup & Reset > Local Backups. After creating the backup, connect your phone to PC, and copy the backup folder (MIUI > Backups > All Backups) to your PC. You can also abck up to Mi Cloud (Settings > Mi Account > Mi Cloud)

How to Install MI A2 Android 9 Pie Fastboot ROM (V10.0.2.0.PDIMIFJ)
Method 1: With Mi Flash tool
1. Download MIUI Fastboot ROM Flashing Tool from here to your PC
2. Download Mi A2 fastboot ROM (V10.0.2.0.PDIMIFJ) directly from here (official page) to PC
3. Turn off the device. Press the Volume Down key and the Power button at the same time to enter Fastboot mode.
4. Install MIUI Fastboot ROM Flashing Tool on your PC.
5. Connect the phone to PC.
6. Double click on the downloaded Fastboot ROM.tgz file to unzip it. Open the file folder for the unzipped ROM pack, and copy its path on the computer.
7. Open MIUI Fastboot ROM Flashing Tool and paste the ROM file folder path into the address bar.
8. Click the ‘Refresh’ button on Flashing tool. Your phone should automatically recognize your phone. (If not, install proper driver for your device).
9. Now, click ‘Flash’ button to flash the ROM file to your phone. Once the installation process is finished, your device should automatically boot to the new version.
Method 2: Without Mi Flash tool

WARNING: Xiaomi has introduced Rollback protection for Mi A2. It means, once you upgraded to Android 9 Pie, you cannot downgrade to Android Ore. Doing so may affect normal functioning or even brick your device.
