OnePlus smartphones have many useful features built-in to enhance user experience. The Step counter, perhaps a less known feature by OnePlus users, is a built-in feature, which is very useful to track how far you walk and how many steps you take a day. Here’s how to turn on and use the built-in step counter in OnePlus 6, and OnePlus 7 to count your steps and walking distance.
Step counter or pedometer lets you calculate the distance that you walked or run. Devices like Fitness band, Smartwatch, etc. have dedicated features for tracking your steps, but if you don’t own such a device, you can use your smartphone for the goal. OnePlus 6/6T and OnePlus 7/7Pro/7T users don’t need to install a third-party app like Google Fit, Pedometer, Runkeeper, etc. to track the walking distance or count steps.
To use your OnePlus phone to track your steps and the distance you walked, follow the below steps.
Contents
Enable Step Counter on OnePlus 6 and 7 series:
- Swipe right from the home screen to open the Shelf
- Tap on the Settings menu (gear icon) at the top right corner.
- Under Tools menu, tap on the Step counter toggle to turn on it.
- Now, go back to Shelf’s main screen and allow physical activity permission.
- The Step counter section should appear on your Shelf at the bottom.
Now your phone will count your steps and walking distance. From your home screen, swipe right to open the Shelf to see your goals – no need for a third-party pedometer app!
Shelf in OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro:
FYI, it seems that OnePlus chose to remove the Shelf feature from future OnePlus releases. The newly launched OnePlus 8, and OnePlus 8 Pro don’t have the Shelf, instead, the OEM added the Google Discover feed for the home screen swipe-right gesture – like in Google Pixel phones. The Discover page offers news and other information tailored to you.
