Microsoft made it very easy to uninstall apps from Windows 8.1’s Start Screen. Anyone can do that by just right clicking the app tile and selecting Uninstall option. If you let your kids, family members or any other users use your computer, you may want to make sure that you are safe from uninstalling any of your favorite or important apps from the Start Screen.

You can easily enable/disable the Uninstall option of Modern UI apps from Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 Start Screen. It is by making a small change in the Local Group Policy Editor. You must be login as an administrator of your system to make the change.

Procedure:

1. Press Win + R keys to open Run command box, type gpedit.msc in the Run dialog box and press Enter. It’ll open Local Group Policy Editor.

2. In the left pane, navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates and click on “Start Menu and Taskbar

3. Now, in the right pane, locate “Prevent users from uninstalling applications from Start” Double click the entry.

4. By default, the option is “Not configured”. Click Enabled, and then click Apply to save the change. You may close the Local Group Policy Editor now.

Disable-Uninstall

Now, go to the Start Screen and right click any app tile to see the “Uninstall” option removed. To enable the “Uninstall” option again, select “Disable” or “Not Configured” option as described in step 4.
