After a long wait, finally Xiaomi has upgraded its media-streaming device Mi Box 3 to Android 8.0 Oreo. The Oreo update provides accelerated browsing experience, features like Google Assistant, Google Voice, Auto Play next, personalized Home page, Play Music and Videos, and much more that enhance user experience on their Android TV box.

Xiaomi starts rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo OTA (over-the-air) for the two-year-old Mi Box 3 and the update comes as build number OPR6.170623.013.2167. The OTA update weighs around 615MB and is available in many regions, like US, India, Canada, Europe, Australia, Brazil, etc.

Usually, OTA updates are rolling out to users incrementally, meaning it will take several days for all Mi Box 3 owners to see it. However, if you cannot wait for the OTA update, you can also download and install the OTA update as described below on their Android TV box.

If you did not received the OTA notification yet, check it by go to device’s Settings > and check for the Oreo OTA update. If update found, download and install it.

Alternatively, you can manually install the Oreo update on Mi Box 3 by downloading the firmware file. Make sure your device is running on Android Nougat.

How to download and install Oreo update manually on Mi Box 3

Download Android 8.0 Oreo OTA update file (build OPR6.170623.013.2167) from here to your Mi Box storage. Now, reboot your device into recovery mode and choose the option ‘apply updates from storage or SD card’. Select the update zip file and install it. (Source – 1, 2)
