Looking for a way to use your Android phone with your iPod Dock or your Car audio interface? Well, if it is running on Android 4.0.3 or above and USB OTG enabled (USB On-The-Go), then you can do that with a free app called PodMode, but only if you are bit handy with a soldering iron to make a suitable cable to connect your Android phone with an iPod dock connector.

PodMode is a free app that supports both Speakers and Clock radios docks with media button (in Simple Remote Mode) and Car audio interface (in Advanced Remote Mode). It requires no root access and launch automatically in one of the two modes (decided by the accessory) and run in the background.

In Simple remote mode, you can play and control media in any third party media player that support media buttons. By default, it will launch the default media app.

Advanced Remote Mode will display playing songs info on a car audio system’s screen. Also, it can even display device notification such as email, text messages, turn-by-turn navigation and weather on the screen, which is very cool, isn’t it?

Please note that this app requires an USB OTG capable Android device such as Galaxy S4, HTC One, Xperia Z, LG Optimus, etc. and a custom made cable (only connections using the 30-pinconnector for analogue audio with serial communication are supported).

Please refer to this XDA Forums thread to know how to make a suitable cable for connecting your Android phone with an iPod/iPhone dock or Car audio system.

PadMode can be downloaded from Play Store for free
