The Lineage OS team has released LineageOS 15.1 custom ROM for all Samsung Galaxy S5 variants – Galaxy S5 LTE, Galaxy S5 Duos and Galaxy S5 Active. This might be a good news for those who are looking Android 8.1 Oreo on their device. With this build, users can enjoy Android 8.1 Oreo, a host of new features, alongside latest security patch.

Lineage OS is one of the most popular custom ROMs available today. The latest build LineageOS 15.1, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo is now available for many old and new devices. The team is working to add more devices to the support list. Recently added devices are, Xiaomi Mi A1, Asus ZenFone 2 Laser, Xperia XA2, Lenovo P2, OPPO R5, R7, etc.

To install the LineageOS 15.1 build on your Galaxy S5, you should first replace your device’s stock recovery with TWRP. Download TWRP recovery for your device from here and use Odin or Heimdall method to flash TWRP.

Note that, as the ROM does not include Gapps (Google apps and services), users need to flash open Gapps (8.1, arm64) after flashing the ROM to get Play store and other Google features.

How to Install LineageOS 15.1 on Samsung Galaxy S5

1. Download the ROM zip file from above link and transfer it to your device’s SD card.

2. Boot Galaxy S5 into TWRP recovery by pressing Home + Power + Volume up button at the same time.

3. In recovery, select ‘Wipe’ > Advanced wipe > and then wipe data, cache partition and format system.

4. Now, select ‘Install’ and then select the ROM zip file and flash it.

5. If you want Google apps, download Gapps zip file [here] and flash it via TWRP and then reboot your device.
