June 10, 2019: A new software update for the ZenFone 5Z improves sound quality on the device and optimizes system for better performance. The update also integrates May 2019 security patches, which will ensure better security on the phone. The update comes with version ZS620KL_WW_90.11.162.72 and the OTA update is available now.
Update: ZenFone 5Z gets fix for SIM Card cannot detect issue in multiple time zones. The update comes with software version is ZS620KL_WW_90.10.138.181 and is available over the air, but you can still grab the download file from Asus website and install the OS manually on your ZenFone 5Z. Apart from the fix for SIM card issue, the 181 update improves camera EIS and enhances security of the device with updated security patch.
Original post: The new ZenFone 5 update fixes SIM card issue on the device. Asus starts rolling out the update for the device and it comes as build number WW_16.0611.1901.1. If the phone cannot detect SIM card or not showing the signal for inserted SIM card, then this update will fix it. If you have not received the OTA notification yet, force check it by going to Settings > System > System updates to check for the update.
Recently, Asus upgraded ZenFone 5 (ZE620KL) to Android 9 Pie and then released an update with latest security patches, fix for auto brightness issue and Line app issue over Wi-Fi. The new ZenFone 5 ZE620KL_WW_16.0611.1901.1 update with fix for SIM card related issues starts rolling out. It will take a couple of days to complete software roll out.
If you don’t want to wait for the OTA update notification, you can download the 1.1 GB update package to your phone’s storage and flash manually. Here is how to download and install the official Android Pie update (WW_16.0611.1901.1) on ZenFone 5 ZE620KL (ASUS_X00QD).
Note: You should download correct firmware build for your SKU. Check the SKU via Settings > About > software information > Build number and see the software version for WW, CN, JP, etc.

How to Install Software update on ZenFone 5/5Z
#Method -1:
1. Download latest update zip file for ZenFone 5 (ZE620KL) from above link.
2. Double click the downloaded firmware zip file to see another zip file it. If another zip file found inside it, unzip the downloaded firmware zip file
3. Connect your phone to your PC, move the update zip file to the root directory of your phone’s internal storage and then disconnect from PC.
4. You will see firmware update notification popped up on status bar.
5. Select it and follow steps to update firmware.
6. After completing the installation, your Zenfone 5 will reboot into the new version.
#Method – 2:
1. Download the Zenfone 5/5Z firmware update from above link
2. Transfer the downloaded update to the microSD card of the device.
3. Boot the device into recovery mode. To do this, with the smartphone turned off, press the Volume down buttons and Power button simultaneously until the recovery menus appear.
4. In recovery menu, select the “apply update from microSD” option.
5. Choose the downloaded firmware update and press OK.
This will install firmware update on the device. After the installation finishes, the device will reboot into system.
